Where is Englishman River Falls Provincial Park?

Englishman River Falls Provincial Park is located approximately 13 km southwest of Parksville, near the community of Errington. Take Exit 51 from Highway 19 and follow signs along Errington Road.

How many waterfalls are there?

The park features two main waterfalls—the Upper Falls and Lower Falls—connected by well-maintained trails through old-growth forest. Both offer spectacular viewing platforms.

Can you swim at Englishman River Falls?

Yes! Swimming in the deep emerald pools below the falls is extremely popular in summer. The water is glacier-fed and very cold. Several swimming spots exist along the river—exercise caution on slippery rocks.

Is there camping at the park?

Yes, the park has a well-maintained campground with 105 campsites suitable for tents and RVs. Reservations are highly recommended, especially for summer weekends. Book through BC Parks Discover Camping.

How long is the hiking trail?

The main loop trail is approximately 2-3 km and takes about 45 minutes to an hour to complete, visiting both waterfalls. Additional trails extend into the forest for longer explorations.

Is Englishman River Falls wheelchair accessible?

The Upper Falls viewpoint is accessible via a paved path from the parking area. The trail to the Lower Falls involves stairs and rougher terrain.

When is the best time to visit?

Spring offers the most powerful waterfalls after winter rains. Summer is best for swimming (though water is always cold). The park is beautiful year-round with lush forest scenery. Fall foliage is spectacular.

What facilities are available?

The park offers pit toilets, picnic areas, hiking trails, and a campground. There are no showers at the campground.

How do I get there from Nanaimo?

From Nanaimo, head north on Highway 19. Take Exit 51 toward Errington/Port Alberni. Turn left onto Errington Road and follow signs to the park. The drive takes approximately 30 minutes.

Are dogs allowed?

Yes, dogs are welcome on leash throughout the park trails. Keep them away from swimming areas during busy summer days.

Is there a day use fee?

No, day use is free. Camping fees apply for overnight stays.

What should I bring?

Bring water shoes for slippery rocks near swimming holes, snacks, water, and a camera. Wear sturdy footwear for the forest trails.
