A Celestial Symphony
An exceptional show of the night sky radiately a rainbow of colors dancing among the stars
The forecast was calling for another Northern Light Show but this time with an added bonus of a meteor shower.
Having spent the majority of my life on the East Coast living in major cities, the intense light pollution meant we rarely even saw stars. And if there was a major cosmic event, you’d have to plan for it and pray the clouds wouldn’t rain on your parade.
Since living in the Pacific North West, I’ve been lucky to catch the Aurora three times in one summer! And this 3rd time around was just as incredible as the first.
But that little voice in the back of my head pushed me out the door and down to my favorite local spot, Pipers Lagoon. I had thought about going somewhere else since I had already captured the Northern Lights from there before, but with the potential bioluminescence, I felt it was worth a shot.
Slowly the sky began transforming as I scoped the beach for different angles. Feeling a bit of pressure to create a composition before the sky comes alive, I decided to take advantage of the lower tide and head to the far of the cliffs.
This was it – the angle I was looking for. The low angle of this mini mountain in the foreground gave the starry canvas some perspective.
Within minutes the night sky’s curtains opened and performed an incredible Celestial Symphony.
And once again I was glad I went with my gut and chose Pipers. Every direction I turned I had another exception view of this Stargazer’s dream.
It was so consuming I caught myself laughing out loud being completely blown away by the beauty. Not only was the sky dancing, but the meteor showers added that extra sparkle.
What a night.
