What animals can I see at the centre?

The centre is home to non-releasable wildlife including black bears, eagles, various owl species, hawks, falcons, ravens, and occasionally cougars. These ambassador animals help educate visitors about Vancouver Island wildlife.

What are the admission prices?

Adults: $15 plus tax. Children ages 4-16: $6 plus tax. Children 3 and under: Free. Veterans and military: Free. Annual passes are also available.

What are the hours of operation?

The centre is open 9:00 AM to 4:30 PM, 7 days a week. Closed Christmas Day, Boxing Day, and New Year's Day.

What is the centre's mission?

NIWRA rehabilitates injured and orphaned wildlife with the goal of release back into the wild. Animals that cannot be released due to permanent injuries become ambassadors, helping educate visitors about local wildlife and conservation.

Are guided tours available?

Yes, guided tours are available for groups of 15 or more. The knowledgeable staff explain each animal's story and the centre's rehabilitation work.

Can I see the eagle flight enclosure?

Yes, rehabilitating eagles can be viewed through one-way glass in the largest flight enclosure of its kind in Canada—a highlight of any visit.

Is there a gift shop?

Yes, the Bear Den Gift Shop offers wildlife-themed items. Proceeds support the centre's rehabilitation programs.

How do I get there from Parksville?

From Parksville, head west on Highway 4 toward Port Alberni. Turn left onto Leffler Road near Coombs. The centre is well-signed and approximately 7 minutes from Highway 19.

Can I bring my dog?

Only service animals are permitted at the centre. Leave pets at home or in your vehicle (weather permitting) during your visit.

What should I know before visiting?

Wear comfortable walking shoes as you'll be outdoors viewing enclosures. The centre operates rain or shine. Photography is welcome but flash photography near animals is discouraged.
