Being spoiled by New York’s fall foliage and the unbelievable autumn colors just about everywhere we went, it’s easy to see why I was afraid I’d be stuck with the evergreen pines of the Pacific Northwest, missing the beauty that the changing season brings.
But thankfully, Vancouver Island boasts an impressive variety of trees with colors that pop amidst the sea of green, announcing the arrival of autumn as early as mid-September. With the milder climate, the colors continue to change even into early November. It may not be as overwhelmingly obvious as the Northeast, but I was continually surprised by the colors we’d encounter on our local ventures.
